Deborah Meaden

Deborah Meaden is mainly known for being one of the multi-millionaires in the popular TV show Dragons’ Den alongside other millionaires like Peter Jones, where hopeful business people attempt to get financial backing for their ideas.

However, as a motivational speaker, Deborah is able to draw on much more than her experiences on television. After setting up a ceramic and glass export business while she was 19, she bought a successful franchise for clothing and accessories firm Stefanel. The first business she folded after 18 months and the second she sold after two years.

After running several retail and leisure businesses, Deborah joined her family’s holiday park company Weststar Holidays where she went on to become Managing Director. Deborah later acquired the business through a management buy-out and sold it six years on in two stages – initially for £33m and then for £83m.

During her time there, Deborah turned the business around to make it such a success that it was servicing over 150,000 customers per annum and had earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of more than £11m.

After Weststar, Deborah Meaden bought the textile mill Fox Brothers, going on to launch the online store The Merchant Fox, and became a highly successful corporate investor. In 2006 she joined other multi-millionaires on Dragons’ Den and is still there today. In 2013, Deborah took part in Strictly Come Dancing.
