Theo Paphitis is a British retail magnate and entrepreneur who is best known for his appearances on popular television show Dragons’ Den and as former chairman of Millwall Football Club.
Born in Limassol, Cyprus, Theo came to England with his parents and one of his two brothers when he was nine years old.
He attended Ambler Primary School, Islington and Woodberry Down Comprehensive School, Manor House, where he began his entrepreneurial activities by running the school tuckshop aged 15.
By no means a silver-spoon kind of individual, Theo began his working life as a tea boy and filing clerk at a City of London insurance broker before becoming a sales assistant in a watch shop.
He went from strength to strength in his twenties by moving up the career ladder, setting up a property finance company with close friend and business associate Mark Moran aged just 23.
Theo was Chairman of Millwall FC for eight years, taking the club out of administration, into the Championship (to the FA Cup Final opposite Manchester United) and into Europe.
He’s also revived the fortunes of such notable retail brands as La Senza, Contessa Lingerie, Ryman, Partners the Stationers and Stationery Box.
Other ventures include Red Letter Days, an experience days business, homewares specialist chain Robert Dyas, and lingerie and nightwear company Boux Avenue.
Through his appearances on BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den, Theo has advised many entrepreneurs and invested in several innovative businesses and brands.
In his presentations Theo carefully explains his business strategies and offers invaluable advice on exactly what it takes to turn a business into a rip-roaring success. He offers audiences numerous sound business principles and the necessary tools required to create highly lucrative businesses.
