Rarely off the TV where he is often called upon to comment on fashion issues – past, present and future – motivational speaker Wayne Hemingway is probably best known for creating the world-famous designer label Red or Dead.
After running the company for 21 years, Wayne sold it in a multi-million pound deal and set up the House of Hemingway which includes HemingwayDesign, HemingwayDigital and Hemingway-directed events, including The Urban Village Fete, the Classic Car Boot Sale and The Vintage Festival.
The stated purpose of the House of Hemingway is to “breathe new life into old concepts, cutting through the ordinary and expected with powerful, visionary design”. The business gets involved in property interiors, housing regeneration and landscape planning, all with a focus on what impact they have on the community.
Wayne is a popular choice as motivational speaker because of his extensive knowledge of branding, fashion, housing design and events management. He regularly blogs on the House of Hemingway website on such subjects as retrofitting and refurbishment, selling off some of Britain’s forests, eco towns, problems in the housing sector, cycling, and how there is much more to housing than bricks, mortar and timber.
With a degree in geography and town planning, Wayne is on the Design Council trustee board and its Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) committee. The motivational speaker is also a doctor of design at Wolverhampton, Stafford and Lancaster universities, a professor in Northumbria University’s built environment department and a fellow of both Regent’s University in London and Blackburn College.
