Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has described the reporter and motivational speaker Faisal Islam as “a fantastic journalist – tough but fair”.
The political editor of Sky News since 2014, Faisal Islam has held various key journalistic positions in the British media, including economics correspondent for The Observer newspaper and business correspondent for Channel 4 News. He later moved up to become the popular news programme’s economics editor before leaving for Sky.
Islam came into his own as a high-profile reporter when he covered the financial crisis of 2008, particularly the collapse of Icelandic banks. The motivational speaker won a business journalist of the year award and a best broadcast story award for this coverage, as well as winning the prestigious Wincott Foundation award for best television coverage of a topical issue. The judges said Islam had avoided the usual clichés that characterise so many financial programmes.
Faisal is able to teach audiences both as a motivational speaker, but with the point of view from a financial and economic standpoint. He has also been shortlisted for young journalist of the year at the British Press Awards, he even was given the year’s broadcast news journalism trophy at the Work Foundation’s Workworld Media Awards.
