World-famous explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell is not just an excellent and captivating motivational speaker but he is also a major supporter of various charities that help underprivileged kids in Britain and elsewhere.
John Blashford-Snell – usually referred to as JBS – has carried out more than 100 expeditions in some of the most challenging environments on the planet. These include Colombia, Mongolia, Zaire, and the Blue Nile. He is also credited with inventing white water rafting when he needed to negotiate difficult waters using just inflatable boats.
Not only can the motivational speaker draw on his experiences as an explorer (he created the Scientific Exploration Society) to entertain delegates or guests at your conference or private event, but he can also relate fascinating anecdotes from his 37 years in the British Army.
JBS has been involved in various projects to help disadvantaged youth, including an army unit he formed especially to give young people a sense of direction following the riots of 1981. He also headed up a multi-million pound appeal to give Merseyside youth access to vocational training and support and he set up the Liverpool Construction Crafts Guild to develop skilled craftsmen in the area.
Among the various roles that JBS has held are life president of the Centre for Fortean Zoology, worldwide ambassador for the Zenith watch company and president of the Vole Club. The awards and accolades that he has received include an MBE, an OBE, the Segrave Trophy, and the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Livingstone Medal.
