Chris Townsend OBE is the CEO of Broadband Delivery UK, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in the UK government, and was also commercial director for the London Organizational Committee for the Olympic Games.
Before becoming a business speaker and becoming involved in the London 2012 Games, Chris had worked for Transport for London. He had been heavily involved in the “branding London” campaign, the implementation of the Oyster Card system, and was responsible for securing the various advertising and sponsorship contracts for the London Underground including an £800 million contract with Viacom which ran for eight years.
Beginning his career at EMI Records as a graduate trainee, his career went from strength to strength in a succession of different roles and for different companies, including BskyB, until he took on the newly created Group Marketing Director role at the TfL in 2003.
The Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic bid, Sir Keith Mills, encouraged Chris to apply for the commercial director role, and in June 2006, he was appointed to the position.
Responsible for domestic sponsorship, ticket marketing and merchandising of the London 2012 Olympic Games and the negotiation of worldwide broadcast rights and sponsorship for the games with the International Olympic Committee, he helped generate £2billion to prepare and stage the Olympic Games in London to great effect.
Chris is an impressive leadership speaker, and his success and experience speaks for itself. He is proud of his contribution to the 2012 Games and speaks openly and frankly about the experience when he gives speeches as an after-dinner speaker.
