Bernard Jenkin is a British Conservative politician and the current Member of Parliament for Harwich and North Essex who is available to hire as a political keynote speaker through Champions.
Prior to his election to the House of Commons, Bernard worked in industry and commerce: in sales and marketing with the Ford Motor Company and for venture capital provider 3i before being appointed manager of Legal and General Ventures.
Beginning his Parliamentary career in 1992, Bernard has garnered more than twenty years’ experience in government.
He has represented his constituency in three different guises (Colchester North, North Essex and Harwich and North Essex), ran for election in Glasgow Central during the 1987 General Election and acted as Vice Chairman for the Conservative Party for a period.
He has served on the House of Commons Defence Committee, and speaks and writes extensively about defence matters. He is also Chairman of the All Party Group on Homeland Security, and for an informal group supporting a Thames Estuary Airport.
In addition he is also the Chairman of the Public Administration Select Committee, a role he has held since May 2010. His task is to scrutinise “good government” across Whitehall.
While an MP, Bernard served five years in the Shadow Cabinet and held a number of significant ministerial posts including Shadow Secretary of State for the Regions and Shadow Secretary of State for Defence.
As a politics speaker Bernard not only discusses the Conservative Party, their values and his experience as a member but also ruminates on the more than fifteen years he has spent representing his constituency.
