David Davis is a British Conservative Party politician who is the current elected Member of Parliament for the parliamentary constituency of Haltemprice and Howden.
Entering Parliament in 1987 at the age of 38 for the Boothferry constituency, he held the positions of Conservative party chairman and Shadow Deputy Prime Minister during his political career.
Between 2003 and 2008, he was the Shadow Home Secretary for the Opposition, under both Michael Howard and David Cameron. He had also previously been a candidate for the leadership of the Conservatives in 2001 and 2005, coming fourth and then second.
During his time in Parliament, David is best known for resigning as an MP on principle in 2008 to regain his Haltemprice and Howden seat in the resulting by-election on a specific civil liberties campaign.
After his re-election, David has established himself as an influential backbencher whilst also taking the chair of the Future of Banking Commission.
Despite being asked by David Cameron to join the cabinet of his coalition government in 2010, David declined, staying on the backbenches to scrutinise and critique the government.
As a political speaker, David focuses on social mobility and society and the effects that ‘fairness’ has on these indicators during his keynote and after dinner speeches.
David is also a firm believer that both business and political worlds need more scrutiny and competition in order to create peak performance and achieve their potential, making him an inspirational candidate for whom principle is principal.
