As a motivational speaker, British rower Alex Partridge can certainly talk from experience. He has been there at the very pinnacle of his sport and walked away with medals a-plenty.
Whether he is part of the men’s eight (M8+) rowing team or the coxless four, Alex has shown his undeniable talent. At two separate Olympic Games – 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London – he took part in the men’s eight and won a silver and a bronze medal respectively.
Before then, at the World Rowing Championships run by the International Rowing Federation, Alex clocked up three gold medals. As part of a coxless four, the motivational speaker came first in the championships in 2005 in Gifu, Japan, 2006 in Eton in England and 2009 in Poznań, Poland.
Two years later and Alex won a silver in the men’s eight on Lake Bled in Slovenia. His other medals – two bronzes – came in the coxed four in 2001 in Lucerne, Switzerland, and in the eight in 2003 in Milan, Italy.
As a motivational speaker, Partridge is able to talk about dealing with the highs and lows that life throws at you, having two Olympic medals to his name and yet missing out on another Olympic Games – Athens in 2004 when he suffered a collapsed lung.
On this occasion, the team he would have been a member of won the gold medal. But the great twist to this story is that the winning team had named the boat after Alex, so he was there in spirit!
