Boris Becker

TENNIS LEGEND

Boris Becker

Boris Becker burst into the national limelight as a redheaded teenager in 1985, winning the Wimbledon Championships and breaking the record as the youngest tennis player ever to do so, at 17 years, 7 months. Boris was the first German to ever win the Championships as well as the first unseeded player to ever go the whole way. In recent years, Boris has become a highly regarded tennis speaker, reminiscing about times at the top as well as the focus needed to stay on top of your game.

At 6 feet 3 inches, Boris’ playing technique centered around savage serves, gigantic groundstrokes and vicious volleys. Becker retained his Wimbledon crown in 1986, beating Ivan Lendl in the final. A firm crowd favourite for the whole of his career, Boris went on to reach the final of the infamous tournament seven times in the following ten years. Boris’ popularity both on and off court proves testament to his eccentric and energetic after dinner speeches as a sports speaker.

Aside from Wimbledon, Boris also enjoyed victory in two other Grand Slams – Australia in 1991 and 1996, as well as the US in 1989. Boris also had the pleasure to represent his nation at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, winning the men’s doubles alongside Michael Stich.

Beside his illustrious Tennis career, Boris is also a savvy businessman, owning the Tennis division of Volkl rackets, launching a Boris Becker sub-brand to attract players to his company’s innovative rackets. Boris has indicated his involvement in the ‘Riffa View Signature Estate’ in Bahrain with the hope of nurturing tennis stars for the future.

In December 2013, Boris became tennis superstar Novak Djokovic’s Head Coach and subsequently ended his contract with the BBC as a presenter for their Tennis broadcasting.

An engaging tennis speaker, Boris has the experience of featuring for over a decade at the forefront of an international sport. The peak performance and success maximization needed in order to maintain his status was only due to Boris’ relentless drive and determination.
