Christian Horner OBE has been Red Bull Racing Teams’ Team Principal since 2005. Initially, he was a race car driver but found a more suitable path as a Team Principle carrying that position to both FIA F3000 and later GP2 Series team Arden International Motorsport.
He began as most accomplished drivers would participating in go-karting his professional career began after he gained a Formula Renault scholarship in 1991. Prior to taking part in the 1992 British Formula Renault Championship with Manor Motorsport, he finished the season as a race winner and was the highest placed rookie.
He moved up to British Formula Three in 1993, he finished in second place for the Class B Championship with P1 Motorsport also winning five races before moving to other teams including Fortec and ADR. He then moved onto TOM’s team in 1996. The same year he raced in British Formula Two.
Christian moved up to Formula 3000 in 1997, he founded the Arden team. He stated he set the team up with a combination of borrowed money and a loan from his father. He managed to get Roly Vincini to become his race engineer.
He brought a trailer second-hand for his newly founded team from Helmut Marko, who was the head of the Red Bull Junior Team and one of his main rivals in F3000. Funnily enough, they worked closely at Red Bull in later years.
He remained in F3000 for 1998 and was accompanied by Kurt Mollekens, who led the championship at one stage.
After a realization that he wasn’t as quick as the best of the drivers he was up against he decided to retire from driving at the end of the season, he then put his efforts into the Arden team. Going toward his future working for Red Bull, becoming the youngest Team Principal at just 36 years old.
