Christine Ohuruogu MBE has become a highly popular motivational speaker through her ability to relate her experiences as a multi medal-winning athlete who at one stage faced a lifetime ban from her beloved sport.
A specialist in the 400m, Christine won her first Olympic medal – a gold – at Beijing in 2008 then four years later won a silver medal at the London Olympic Games. Her other gold medals have come at the World Championships of 2007 and 2013, the World Indoor Championships of 2012 (this time in the 4 x 400m relay), the European Indoor Championships of 2013 (again, the relay), and the Commonwealth Games of 2006.
Christine’s two silver medals came in the European U23 Championships of 2005, while the motivational speaker’s seven bronze medals have come in the World Championships, the World Indoor Championships, the European Team Championships, and the Commonwealth Games.
The vast majority of Ohuruogu’s success came after she challenged a lengthy ban that was given to her when she missed some drug test sessions. She was banned for a year but just 24 days after it finished she won her first World Championships gold medal. In her motivational presentations Christine is happy to talk about her disappointment at the ban and her determination to come back and prove her natural ability on the track – which she did with a vengeance.
