Ian Rose is one of the UK’s most successful Paralympic judoka. Also an extremely popular motivational speaker, he has taken part in no fewer than five separate Olympic Games, winning medals at two of them.
Seen by millions as a torchbearer at the London 2012 Paralympic Games – which he had to pull out of because of an injury – Ian has a history in judo that had seen him win a silver medal at the 2004 Games in Athens and a bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Games. He also came in fifth place at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney.
The 1995 World Champion and four-time European Champion also came third at the 2007 World Championships, the 2007 European Championships and the 2006 World Championships. Although the motivational speaker will readily admit that he struggled at first to get into the sport, it can be safely argued that he achieved an incredible amount in his 22 years as a professional before he chose to retire in 2012.
It is this determination and professionalism that has seen Ian go from strength to strength throughout his career and carry this success through to his time as a non-participant in sports. His presentations never fail to inspire and touch a wide variety of audiences on an equal level.
