However, anyone well versed in football history will know that Joe played for Everton 232 times between 1966 and 1974 and scored 102 goals. He then joined Manchester City for three years and hit the net 23 times in 99 matches. In all, the motivational speaker played 474 league games and scored 152 goals. Joe also won six caps for his national team England.
After retiring from playing football, Joe Royle went into management, heading up Oldham Athletic for 12 years between 1982 and 1994, after which he returned to his former club Everton, managing the team for three years, and his other former club Manchester City, also for three years. Other teams that Joe managed include Ipswich Town and then Oldham Athletic for a second time. In recent years, he has been footballing consultant to Norwich City and work in youth development at Everton.
