Motivational speaker Martin Keown is now a well-known face on Saturday nights – appearing regularly on BBC TV’s Match of the Day to share his insight on the day’s games. He has also been called on to comment on various Champions League matches.
Before becoming a TV pundit, Martin had had an impressive footballing career stretching over a quarter of a century, playing in 311 matches for Arsenal between 1993 and 2004. Other teams that he played for include Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester City. Throughout his career – including 43 appearances for his national team England – Martin played 629 games and scored 10 goals.
Unfortunately, the statistics do not record how many goals Keown prevented from being scored when he played in defence for Arsenal and England but this motivational speaker was a record holder in the Champions League for playing for the longest time before his team conceded a goal.
Although he left Arsenal as a player in 2004, Martin Keown has kept working with the club in the capacity of coach, trainer and scout. He has also coached Oxford University’s Blues.
It is this huge experience that Martin has gathered over the years that make him popular as a motivational speaker, combined with his strongly expressed views, his gentle sense of humour and his winning smile.
