Martin Peters MBE is a football speaker and ex-West Ham player known for breaking the £200,000 transfer record when he moved from West-Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur in 1970. With a career that spanned four decades Martin will forever be remembered as one of the many esteemed players on the World Cup winning England team from 1966.
Known as the “complete midfielder” Martin Peters MBE was always applauded for the versatility of his playing abilities, as a sports speaker Martin discusses how persistence and training helped to develop his inherent footballing talent and made it possible for him to pass and score with both feet as well as establishing himself as a free kick specialist.
After retiring in 1983 Martin has gone on to work as a dedicated sports speaker, his presentations detailing his experience of the legendary ’66 World Cup and his later appearances in the 1970 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to establishing himself as a football speaker however Martin Peters MBE spent many years working in insurance, taking a significant detour from the world of football and being a sports speaker Martin worked in the insurance industry for fifteen years following the end of his football career.
In more recent years Martin has worked as a football speaker, host and guest at functions for both West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. He can often been seen as part of the welcoming party at White Hart Lane and as a member of the crowd, along with his children and grandchildren, at West Ham games as they are all passionate United supporters.
Martin’s contributions to sports and his achievements as both a football speaker and player have been recognized both with an MBE on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen and with a place in the English Football Hall of Fame.
