Motivational speaker Phillip DeFreitas knows what it’s like to make an impression and to inspire others. He is known in the cricket world as the player who achieved the rare double of 10,000 first class runs and 1,000 wickets. He is also the only bowler in England ever to have taken five wickets in a single innings against all 18 first class county sides.
Making his first appearance for the England team at just 20 years old, DeFreitas played 44 Test matches, taking 40 wickets, and played in two World Cup finals. He made his first class debut playing for Leicestershire County Cricket Club in 1985 and it wasn’t long before he was captain of the club. He also led Derbyshire County Cricket Club in the 1990s, played for Lancashire, Boland and Lashings World XI, and shared international pitches with the likes of Ian Botham, David Gower and Mike Gatting.
With the nickname ‘Daffy’, Phillip is known to be passionate about cricket and since he retired he has gone into coaching, working with young hopefuls at the Oxford Universities Centre of Cricketing Excellence (UCCE) and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
DeFreitas’s experiences over the years give him ample material to entertain and amuse audiences and conference delegates and his presentations always go down a storm.
