Terry Butcher

Football pundit and former player and manager

Footballer and motivational speaker Terry Butcher is known for his tough approach to the game and one of his most used images shows him with blood pouring down his face and soaking his England shirt in a World Cup match in 1989. Stitches in a cut on his forehead had come open during the game but he insisted on playing on.

As well as playing for his country for 10 years – he made his debut when he was 21, captained the team and got 77 caps – Terry had successful spells at Ipswich Town and Rangers.

After retiring as a player, the motivational speaker held managerial posts at Coventry City, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Sunderland, Motherwell, Sydney FC, Hibernian, Brentford and Newport County. He also worked for seven months as assistant to the manager of the Scotland team. In 2011, Butcher was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

Terry Butcher’s forthright style of playing and managing has continued in his role as a sports pundit on TV and radio and as a motivational speaker. Telling it as it is, Terry is a popular choice at events where the need is for someone who has hilarious anecdotes to share and fascinating tales to tell from his days on both sides of the touchline.
