Jo Malone is a British entrepreneur who is best known for her eponymous fragrance brand, long considered one of the world’s bestselling luxury lines.
Having left school at 13 with no qualifications, Jo worked as a beauty therapist in her London flat and began mixing bath oils for clients in her kitchen.
Her handmade products became increasingly popular and in 1994 she opened her first Jo Malone London store in the British capital – four years later, she launched within the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City.
In 1999 Jo sold the Jo Malone London business to Estee Lauder and continued to work as creative director until her exit in 2006 – two years later she was rewarded with an MBE for her services to the beauty industry.
Jo then ventured into television in 2012, using her talents as an entrepreneur and business woman to present the four-part TV series ‘High Street Dreams’. The concept of the series was to help small businesses realise their dreams of making it bid on the High Street and helped create six new brand.
Jo has shared her business experiences in publications, radio and on numerous television shows including BBC One’s The Apprentice, BBC Two’s Working Lunch, and ITV1’s Loose Women and Lorraine.
Her passion for perfume and creative flair despite her humble origins are one of the main reasons why Jo Malone London became a global success, and this passion remains in her current venture, Jo Loves, and in her role as a corporate or keynote speaker.
