Daniel Susskind is a bestselling author, economist and leading authority on artificial intelligence, work and the future of the economy. He is the Mercers’ School Memorial Professor of Business at Gresham College, a Digital Fellow at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab and a member of the UK Government’s Expert Panel on AI and the Future of Work. Daniel examines how technological progress is reshaping employment, education, economic growth and society, giving organisations a rigorous perspective on the opportunities and challenges created by AI. His influential research and writing have established him as a prominent voice in debates surrounding automation and the future of work.
Daniel studied Economics and Management at the University of Oxford before beginning his career in government. He worked as a Policy Adviser in the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit, a Policy Analyst in the 10 Downing Street Policy Unit, and later a Senior Policy Adviser in the Cabinet Office. After becoming a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard University, he completed postgraduate study in economics at Oxford. Daniel subsequently became a Lecturer and Fellow in Economics at Balliol College, building an academic career focused on economics, technology and employment. He has since held positions across Oxford and King’s College London, combining economic research with analysis of technological change.
Today, Daniel holds research positions spanning several leading academic institutions. Alongside Gresham College and Stanford, he is a Senior Research Associate at Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI, an Associate Member of Oxford’s Department of Economics and a Research Professor at King’s College London. His books include the bestselling The Future of the Professions, A World Without Work and Growth: A Reckoning. Both A World Without Work and Growth were runners-up for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year, while Growth was selected by Barack Obama as one of his favourite books of 2024. His latest book, What Should My Children Do? How to Flourish in the Age of AI, was published in the UK in 2026 and explores how people can prepare the next generation for an AI-driven world.
