In his science fiction novel, Ready Player One, Ernest imagines a dystopian worldwide virtual reality game similar to what the metaverse is believed to be like in reality. Most recently, Facebook has adopted the term Metaverse, renaming their empire of social media networks under the name ‘Meta ’.
