Born in 1977 in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, Chad’s love for innovative thinking started from a young age. He attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, a course that cultivated his ability to ‘think outside of the box’. Post-graduation, Chad joined the PayPal division at eBay, where he primarily focused on user interface and ease of use.
Whilst working at eBay, Chad met co-workers and future partners, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, who he founded YouTube with, in 2005. The video-sharing platform quickly became one of the fastest growing sites on the internet, and was ranked the 10th most popular website a year after it was released. Since running the website in a small office above a restaurant in a Californian city, the website now, as of May 2019, has 500 hours of content uploaded every minute. Astonishingly, over 1 billion hours of content are viewed on YouTube every day.
After leaving YouTube, Chad turned to launching another brand. Named MixBit, it is an editing software for smartphones, which gives everyday users the chance to produce quality content. Similar to the likes of Vine, Instagram and Vyclone, it produces clips 16 seconds long and has superior editing tools to its competitors. In 2018, the company, now called Zeen, was acquired by BlueJeans.
As a leading innovation and business management speaker, Chad has nurtured one of the most successful businesses on the internet. Despite selling YouTube to Google for nearly $2 billion in stocks, he is still regarded as the mastermind behind the platform. In his public speeches, Chad offers an insight into business secrets for success, including regulating your peak performance to avoid burnout and how to develop the quality of your work.
