Fern Lulham is a blind psychotherapist, keynote speaker and accessibility consultant who explores the human side of change, inclusion and belonging. Combining professional psychological expertise with her lived experience of blindness, Fern helps organisations understand how people respond to uncertainty, pressure and transition, and what leaders can do to support wellbeing, engagement and connection. Her speaking style blends psychological insight, personal storytelling and humour, challenging assumptions while making complex subjects memorable and accessible. Fern speaks on leadership, mental health, burnout, psychological safety, accessibility and inclusion, helping audiences understand what people need in order to adapt, connect and thrive.
Fern's career began in broadcasting, where she developed the communication skills that would later become central to her speaking work. She gained early radio experience with Hospital Radio Hastings before studying for a Diploma of Higher Education in Radio at the University of South Wales. She later studied Communication and Broadcasting at Western Carolina University, where she worked across student radio as an On-Air Personality, Programme Director, Radio Lab Assistant and General Manager. Further presenting roles followed across stations including Hastings Local Radio, WBKR-FM, WMOM-FM, Three Pines Gander, Roundhouse Radio and Insight Radio.
From 2014, Fern expanded into professional voice-over work before establishing herself as a motivational speaker in 2017. She also became a podcast host with Accessible Media Inc. and, from 2018, worked as a reporter and presenter for BBC Radio 4. Her career subsequently broadened into audio description for ITV, BBC audio production, CPD training and accessibility consultancy. As a BBC producer, Fern has contributed to radio programmes and podcasts for BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service, while her consultancy work focuses on making products, venues, media, storytelling and digital experiences genuinely inclusive.
Since 2022, Fern has worked as a psychotherapist, supporting clients around anxiety, belonging, relationships, shame and grief, while continuing to develop her keynote speaking career. Her talks draw together psychology, lived experience and practical insight to explore how individuals and organisations can create environments in which people feel supported and able to contribute. Fern's TEDx talk, What Online Dating Looks Like When You're Blind, has attracted more than 85,000 views, demonstrating her ability to combine humour with meaningful discussion around assumptions and inclusion. As a speaker, she gives audiences practical perspectives on leadership, change, mental health, accessibility and belonging.
