As a former Northern Ireland international footballer, Quinn now uses his experiences from the pitch as a manager and motivational speaker to influence his team and audiences with teamwork and leadership skills he has acquired over the years.
Beginning his football career in 1977, Jimmy joined non-league team Whitchurch Alport, he moved from Nantwich Town to Oswestry Town in 1980 before moving up to his first league football team Swindon Town in 1981. He made his league debut as a substitute before his full debut in a 3-2 win against Oxford United. It was after he scored a brace in two matches of the following season that secured him a place as a team regular.
At the pinnacle of his career, Jimmy scored an impressive six goals in five games during the FA Cup with Swindon Town. With one of those goals being scored against Blackburn Rovers, Quinn clearly made a good impression as they signed him at the end of the season for £32,500. Now with a lot of teams interested in signing him, Quinn found himself with West Ham United where he helped them make their return to the First Division after their relegation before eventually moving to Reading. Jimmy scored an incredible 94 goals in his 294 appearances that he made for Reading. He became the highest goal scorer in the entire Football League as he helped the Royals to become promoted to the First Division.
Most recently, Quinn ventured into the management career. He began as a player-manager for Reading and Peterborough United before returning to Swindon as the manager. He switched a lot between management and playing for a long while before deciding to retire from football in 2005.
As part of the Northern Ireland national team for 11 years, Jimmy won 46 caps and was named one of the highest goal scorers in the teams history after putting a total of 12 balls in the back of the net. His Football League career saw him appear in 578 games and score a staggering 210 goals. His success as a player is highlighted in Reading’s best-ever eleven as he was voted the best striker, he was also awarded the Golden Boot as a result of his performance as a striker in the 1993-94 season.
