Melanie Marshall MBE is a celebrated former British swimmer who gained many victories throughout her career for Great Britain. After announcing her retirement in 2008, Melanie has taken up multiple coaching roles and is best known for coaching Adam Peaty as the Head Coach at the City of Derby Swimming Club. Starting her international career in 1995, Melanie competed in her first European Youth Olympics in Bath and came home victorious, with four gold medals. By 2004, she was ranked number one in the world, having broken the British 200m freestyle record in the Athens Olympic Games. Named the second most decorated female athlete ever, Melanie’s success continued in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2008 Short Course World Championships. Competing for her final time in the 2008 Olympic Games, Melanie left the sport triumphant and respected for her swimming achievements.
After announcing her retirement from professional swimming, having also become a three-time winner of the ASA British 100m freestyle title, the 400m freestyle champion and the 50m backstroke winner, Melanie decided to focus her expertise on others as a coach. As the Head Coach of the City of Derby Swimming Club, she began coaching Adam Peaty at the age of 12 and created a Commonwealth, European, World and Olympic Champion as a first-time coach. In 2014, she was named the international swimming coach of the year and has since gained the chance to work with the British swimming team.
