Peter began his playing career at Bolton Wanderers where he stayed between 1974 and 1982, making a total of 225 appearances. Between 1982 and 1989, Peter played for Everton, managing 155 appearances in the league. At Queens Park Rangers during 1989 he made 29 league appearances followed by 90 appearances for Manchester City, where he played between 1989 and 1993. Other teams Peter represented include Southampton (1993-94), Notts County (1993-94), and Bury (1994-95).
Beginning his managerial career by going back to Manchester City in 1990 – first as caretaker manager and then player-manager – Reid took the team into the top five of the Premier League two years running. After a short spell at Southampton, this motivational speaker then managed Sunderland, who finished in the top 10 of the Premier League for two years running.
As well as briefly managing the England under-21 national team, Peter took the helm over the following years at Leeds United, Coventry City, the Thailand national team, Stoke City (as assistant manager), Plymouth Argyle and Mumbai City. As a motivational speaker, Peter Reid has some fantastic stories to tell about his time as a player, the ups and downs of management, and his international career playing for England – or not, since he spent most of his time on the bench as substitute for the extremely reliable and productive Bryan Robson. However, Peter won 13 England caps in all.
