Gary Paffett is one of Britain’s most accomplished motorsport professionals, known for his long-standing success as a driver and his leadership within elite racing teams. Across more than two decades in international motorsport, Gary has competed and led at the very highest levels, building a reputation for consistency, discipline and performance under pressure. Best known for his success in touring car racing, Gary became a global name through his achievements in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. A two-time DTM Champion, he established himself as one of the series’ most successful drivers and remains among the most respected figures in its history. His career offers powerful lessons in resilience, focus and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Gary’s journey into elite motorsport began in karting, where he quickly demonstrated exceptional ability. His early success led to rapid progression through junior single-seater racing, culminating in the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award in 1999. This recognition placed him firmly on the radar of Formula One teams and marked the beginning of a career competing at the highest levels of global motorsport. Gary went on to win multiple junior championships before stepping onto the international stage, where his combination of technical understanding and competitive mindset allowed him to excel against some of the best drivers in the world.
Alongside his racing achievements, Gary played an important role within Formula One. For nearly a decade he worked as a test and development driver for the McLaren Formula One team, contributing to the engineering and performance development of one of the sport’s most successful organisations. During this period he collaborated closely with world-class engineers and drivers, helping refine race cars in an environment where marginal gains determine success. Gary later extended this expertise as a simulator driver for the Williams Formula One team, providing crucial performance analysis and technical feedback within another elite racing operation.
Following his competitive racing career, Gary transitioned into senior leadership roles within electric motorsport. He became Team Manager of the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, guiding the organisation through its early development in the all-electric championship. His leadership responsibilities expanded further when he was appointed Sporting Director of the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, before moving into his current position as Racing Director of the Cupra Kiro Formula E Team. Today, Gary draws on this extraordinary journey to deliver engaging keynote speeches, sharing practical lessons on leadership, teamwork, high performance and maintaining success in fast-changing, high-pressure environments.
