Leyla’s journey began in academia, where she worked as a Research Consultant in sustainable products and packaging at RMIT University's Centre of Design. She went on to earn a PhD from RMIT, and this academic foundation laid the groundwork for her dynamic career in sustainability. Over the years, she has launched several groundbreaking initiatives, starting with Eco Innovators in 2009, and later founding Disrupt Design in 2014, where she has continued to use design as a catalyst for positive change. Her early work showcased her deep commitment to sustainability education and creative problem-solving.
In recent years, Leyla has launched Swivel Skills, a platform aimed at equipping the global workforce with practical tools for the circular economy. She also serves as Chief Circular Designer at Circular Australia, pushing the boundaries of national policy and industry practice. Her thought leadership has earned her global recognition, including the UNEP Champion of the Earth award in 2016 and the Core77 Design Education Initiative Award in 2012.
