Makaziwe Mandela-Amuah is a leading figure of female empowerment, on a mission to see the development of the continent of Africa across social, political and economical sectors. Having worked for several top organisations, Makaziwe now works with many charity foundations to combat problems that challenge countries in Africa, proudly carrying on the legacy of her respected family name. Best known for being the daughter of Nelson Mandela, Makaziwe is currently the Director of the House of Mandela Family Foundation and the Co-founding Chair of the House of Mandela. Having enjoyed a distinguished career, Makaziwe is also known for former roles as the Executive Manager of Corporate Services for the Development Bank of Southern Africa and the General Manager of Human Resources for Spoornet. She has also made headlines as an advisor for Nozala, supporting her passion of female empowerment with the investment group making the lives of disadvantaged women better.
Before forging her successful career, Makaziwe began with studies in sociology and social work in South Africa. She was later fortunate to receive a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Massachusetts. Highly successful in her studies, Makaziwe was able to graduate with a Masters degree in Sociology and later with a PhD in Anthropology. In reward of her studies, Makaziwe was bestowed with the Fulbright Distinguished Fellowship Award from her university. Since her days of education, Makaziwe has forged a highly successful career with a number of senior positions. Alongside roles at the Development Bank of Southern Africa, Makaziwe has also been fortunate to hold directorships at Myriad Medical, Nestle SA, Envirosev, Rand Water Services and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Currently, Makaziwe is head of the Industrial Development Group, a consultant for Self Empowerment International and Chairman of the House of Mandela Family Foundation. Sitting at the helm of the family foundation, Makaziwe oversees action to combat Africa’s social issues regarding energy, education, women’s rights and empowerment, HIV/ AIDS and health.
Now booked as a popular speaker for events, Makaziwe is passionately advocating female empowerment and the potential of Africa.
