Vernā Myers is a trailblazing inclusion strategist, cultural innovator and highly sought-after motivational speaker whose work has transformed organisations worldwide. As the Founder and CEO of The Vernā Myers Company since 1996 and former Vice President of Inclusion Strategy at Netflix, she brings decades of experience and a deeply human approach to diversity and inclusion. Her warm, dynamic speaking style and ability to connect with diverse audiences make her a powerful voice on stage, offering practical insights that inspire lasting change. Organisations choose Vernā not only for her deep expertise but for her unparalleled ability to challenge and energise audiences towards more inclusive thinking and behaviours.
Vernā’s journey began with academic excellence, earning a BA in Political Science from Barnard College followed by a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. She started her professional career in law, working as an associate attorney at prestigious firms such as Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault and Fitch, Wiley, Richlin & Tourse. Her growing awareness of inequality in the workplace led her to transition from law into diversity consultancy, first as Executive Director of The Boston Law Firm Group, then founding her own consultancy practice. Her drive to improve racial and cultural equity in professional spaces laid the foundation for her lifelong mission to help others lead with cultural intelligence.
Over the years, Vernā has achieved notable recognition for her contributions. In 2004, she launched the OPUS Conference, focusing on race, ethnicity, and the law. She has authored two impactful books on inclusion and communication, “What if I say the wrong thing? 25 Habits for Culturally Effective People” and “Moving Diversity Forward: Going from Well-Meaning to Well-Doing”, and in 2024, she delivered a powerful commencement address at Santa Clara Law School. Her TED Talk “How to Overcome Our Biases? Walk Boldly Toward Them”, has amassed over four million views and continues to resonate with global audiences. Named one of the Top 100 Black Women Executives by “Diversity Woman”, and a recipient of the Diversity Champion Award from Pepper Hamilton LLP, she is consistently acknowledged as a leader in her field.
Vernā is frequently hired as a speaker because she doesn’t just speak about inclusion – she lives and breathes it. Her ability to simplify complex issues and create a safe, engaging environment for learning makes her invaluable to organisations seeking real change. Whether addressing corporate teams, academic institutions or industry conferences, Vernā’s voice empowers audiences to not only understand bias, but to act on it with courage and clarity.
