Rain Newton-Smith is currently the Director General of the Confederation of British Industry, after serving as the organisation’s Chief Economist for eight years. She has earned recognition as a leading strategic leader and macroeconomist, owing to her 20-year-long successful career. Rain is an industry leader, specialising in subjects like macroeconomics, climate, biodiversity, the race to net zero, sustainable finance, and global governance amongst others. Rain possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Economics from LSE. Whilst she served as an Economist and Research Advisor to the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England, Rain also served as an Advisor to the UK Executive Director at the IMF.
