Diane’s journey to success is deeply rooted in her early experiences. Born in Beijing to college-educated teachers, she spent part of her childhood in a labour and re-education camp. As a young student at Peking University, she became involved in the 1989 Student Democracy Movement, and was forced to flee China after the tragic Tiananmen Square Massacre. Determined to rebuild her future, Diane pursued a Master’s and PhD in Business Administration at Carnegie Mellon University, marking the beginning of her academic career. Her teaching career took off with positions at Cranfield School of Management and Royal Holloway, University of London, eventually leading her to the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon.
In addition to her academic contributions, Diane is a prolific author whose works have captivated readers worldwide. Her debut novel and autobiography, "Lake with No Name", provides a harrowing yet inspiring account of her experiences during the Chinese democracy movement. After which she went on to write a trilogy of detective novels, the Mei Wang Mystery, the first of which, “The Eye of Jade” was shortlisted for The Shamus Award for Best First P.I. Novel. Her books, published in over 20 languages and 28 countries, showcase her ability to translate complex socio-political themes into engaging narratives. She is also a recognised China specialist, frequently appearing on BBC, Sky News, Channel 4, and ITV, and contributing to The Financial Times, The Times, and Condé Nast Traveller.
