David Sole is widely hired as a motivational speaker for his rare blend of elite sporting leadership and high-level executive coaching expertise. As co-founder of School for CEOs, he has worked with senior leaders from global organisations including Oracle, BT, Sainsbury's, Microsoft and Moët Hennessy. His reputation is built on helping high performers translate pressure into progress, drawing on decades of experience in leadership, teamwork and personal accountability at the highest levels.
Before entering the corporate world, David first demonstrated his leadership on the international sporting stage as captain of the Scotland national rugby union team. He earned 44 international caps, led Scotland to a Grand Slam victory, and captained the side during their run to the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup. This foundation in elite sport shaped his understanding of resilience, collective responsibility and performing under scrutiny. After retiring from rugby, he moved into business, holding senior commercial roles with Diageo and United Distillers before progressing into leadership development and executive coaching.
David later became Head of Leadership Development at Whitehead Mann before launching his own coaching business and going on to co-found School for CEOs. He has since advised leaders across industries and served in governance roles, including Chair of the Board of Trustees at Worldwide Cancer Research and membership of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. He also sits on advisory boards and was named one of HR Magazine’s Most Influential Thinkers, reflecting his impact on modern leadership thinking. As co-author of '21st Century Networking – How to Become a Natural Networker', he extends his influence beyond the boardroom.
As a motivational speaker, David combines credibility, empathy and challenge in equal measure. His sessions move beyond inspiration to deliver practical leadership frameworks grounded in lived experience. Whether addressing executives, managers or emerging leaders, he connects lessons from elite sport with the realities of organisational life, helping audiences build confidence, sharpen decision-making and lead with clarity under pressure.
