Owain Wyn Evans is a Welsh TV presenter, journalist and broadcaster who has been working on air since the age of 18. Starting out as the presenter of Ffeil, which was a Welsh children’s news programme, he has since then solidified his reputation as one of the leading weatherman and reporters of his times. Often ridiculed for his presenting style and his sexuality, Owain disarms the prejudice against him by addressing his sexuality and the rampant homophobia in society, when hired to speak at a range of events.
While he is the host of BBC Radio 2’s “Early Breakfast Show” since 2023, he has been in the business long before that. His association with BBC Wales started when he was hired as a presenter, video journalist and reporter for the organisation in 2012 when presented the weather for BBC Wales Today. That same year he was given the opportunity to present traffic and weather updates on BBC Radio Cymru. Today Owain has branched out and has presented the weather for several other regions and countries as well. He served as the lead weather presenter of BBC North West Tonight for three years.
In 2020’s COVID-19 Lockdown, Owain shot to fame because of his drumming rendition of the BBC News theme tune. Owain has been drumming since he was a young boy and his participation in a 24-hour drumathon for Children in Need charity in 2021, helped gather £3.8 million for the cause. Owain has also appeared on several shows like “laith ar Daith” where he teaches Carol Vorderman the Welsh language, “Freeze the Fear” with Wim Hof and was a guest on Michael McIntyre’s “The Wheel”. As a presenter he has worked on shows like BBC Sound’s “In Conversation With” and is a Reporter for “The One Show”. In 2022 he was seen as a Judge for BBC One’s “Wales’ Home of the Year”.
Owain has received several accolades for his work over the years. In 2021 he was given the Best Regional Presenter and Best Breakthrough Talent award at the Royal Television Society North West Awards, in 2019 he was declared the Best TV Presenter at O2 Media Awards for Yorkshire and Humber and has repeatedly been named Most Influential LGBTQ People from Wales in the WalesOnline Pinc List. Now keen on advocating for LGBTQ+ rights as a speaker, Owain can be hired for a range of events where he shares more about his journey as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a member of the world of TV and Radio.
