After graduating in Music and Politics and training to be a music teacher at the London University Institute of Education, Paul worked as a music teacher at Loughborough University. In the 1990s Paul stepped into the world of journalism, becoming a freelance journalist before taking on work with Reed Business Information. During his time with Reed Business Information, Paul worked on a variety of publications, including the likes of Community Care, Contract Journal and Computer Weekly. He then joined the BBC in 2001, joining the crew of the iconic Newsnight show.
Working with the BBC until 2013, Paul was then appointed as the Culture and Digital Editor for Channel 4 News- joining the ITN network. He has also been the presenter of Spinning Yarns and was appointed as the Economics Editor of Channel 4 News in 2014. In 2016, Paul made the decision to leave his role as Economics Editor to focus on his political passions, taking on work as a freelance journalist. His long and fruitful career as a journalist earned Paul many awards, having taken home the 2007 Diageo African Business Reporting Award, the 2004 Workworld Broadcaster of the Year Award and the 2003 Wincott Prize for Business Journalism.
