Among the motivational phrases Collins passed on to members of 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment are “the enemy should be in no doubt that we are his nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction”, “if you are ferocious in battle remember to be magnanimous in victory” and “we go to liberate, not to conquer”.
Collins wanted to be a soldier from a very young age and as soon as he left university he attended the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. During his career, motivational speaker Tim served in the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Germany and Northern Ireland.
A year after taking his troops into Iraq and being awarded the OBE, Tim Collins retired from the army and set up the defence contractor firm New Century. The company – whose biggest client is the US government – is said to include former soldiers as well as ex members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) and the British police unit Special Branch. Collins has said that his company’s training methods are based on those used by these two bodies in the 1970s and ‘80s.
