After studying sports science at Liverpool John Moores University, Katarina began to compete as a heptathlete. Attending the 2009 World Youth Championships Katarina wowed the crowds, taking home her first gold medal in the heptathlon. Her next big achievement was made in 2012, breaking Jessica Ennis-Hill's junior record when competing at the 2012 Multistars competition. It was soon apparent that Katarina had Olympic visions, consistently setting the bar with high Olympic qualifying scores. She ultimately qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games after she scored 6248 points during the TNT- Fortuna Meeting.
Setting the goal of Olympic success, Katarina competed for Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympic Games. She placed 13th at the games, taking away valuable lessons and experience of performing under pressure. Her efforts at the Olympics were highly rewarded, winning the 2012 Lillian Memorial Board Award during the 2012 British Athletics Writers’ Association Awards. In the following years, Katarina trained vigorously, training that proved worthwhile after setting a British high jump record at the 2015 British Indoor Championships and a British long jump record at the 2015 Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix. She then qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and took 6th position in her event.
In 2018 Katarina competed at and won the 2018 World Indoor Pentathlon, won the 2018 Commonwealth Games heptathlon title and claimed silver at the 2018 European Championships. Her performance at the 2018 European Championships saw Katarina land herself firmly in the World all-time top 25. Competing in 2019, Katarina won the 2019 World Athletics Championships heptathlon. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Katarina claimed Gold in the Women's Heptathlon.
