In Luke’s debut amateur boxing match he won the English senior ABA bantamweight title in 2007 at the St. Paul's Amateur Boxing Club in Hull. A year later he defended the title against Gareth Smith. Competing at the European Boxing Championships, he represented his country defeating Olympic bronze medallist Veaceslav Gojan. After qualifying for the 2012 Olympics Games, Luke secured a gold medal in the 56 kg Bantamweight division. Following such success, a gold telephone box was painted near his local boxing club, a first-class postage stamp was issued depicting Luke and in 2013, he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire.
Turning professional in 2013, Luke’s first fight was at Caven Park. During his career he took many major scalps including the previously undefeated Scott Moises. At the peak of his career so far, Luke defended the Commonwealth lightweight boxing title and the WBC Silver boxing title from 2016 to 2017. In March 2019, The Ring ranked Luke as second in the world for the lightweight division, and fifth in the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, by BoxRec. Over the course of his consistently improving career, Luke boasts 20 wins and 3 losses, with 16 of those wins by knockout.
Outside of the ring, Luke launched the Luke Campbell Foundation in 2014, which ensures hundreds of disadvantaged children have the opportunity to achieve their potential while leading positive lives. In 2015 Lukes Foundation created a brand new elite boxing academy with Hull College. Luke has also worked in front of the camera appearing as a model in leading magazines including British Vogue, GQ and many more.
An extremely likeable athlete, Luke featured on ITV’s Dancing on Ice in series 8, in 2013. Alongside professional ice skater, Jenna Smith, he reached the final as a firm favourite with the public. Taking to the public speaking circuit, Luke is a captivating sports personality who is frequently booked for major events.
