Fate had dictated Paul’s future when he broke his knee cap while forging a promising career in Gaelic football and so he decided to try his hand at professional golfing. A marketing graduate from the University of San Diego, McGinley was also in the team that won the Ryder Cup in 2004 and 2006 – meaning he was the only European player to win in all three of his appearances.
The motivational speaker from Dublin, Republic of Ireland, then went on to help Great Britain and Ireland win The Vivendi Trophy in 2009 (when he was captain) and 2011. McGinley also played a major role in the teams that won the World Cup, the Seve Trophy and The Royal Trophy and in 2005 he was a winner again, this time in the Volvo Masters at Valderrama. Currently a member of the Tournament Committee for the PGA European Tour, Paul has also been a successful assistant to Jose Maria Olazabal and Colin Montgomerie.
