Former heavyweight champion of the world, Tyson Fury, who is better know as Gypsy King, has dominated the ring for more than a decade. Looming over his competitors at an incredible 6 feet 9 and with a reach of 85 inches, Tyson has one of the most intimidating stances of any current boxer, ensuring he puts out a powerful fight. From Irish traveller descent, Tyson has moved through the ranks throughout his career, from underdog to reigning champ, and has taken knockdowns both in and out of the ring, earning him the place as ‘The People’s Champion’ thanks to his humble journey. Having suffered with his mental health and made a defining return to the sport, Tyson’s engagements as an event speaker are truly inspiring, an opportunity not to be missed.
Having represented both England and Ireland in his amateur career with great success, Tyson turned professional in 2008 aged only 20. Despite being a relatively new boxer to the professional scene, Tyson gained recognition for his quirky singing habit and attention-seeking antics, however, his results in the ring were what put him on the map. Stepping up to his first-word title in 2015, Tyson went 12 rounds with Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, Lineal and The Ring belts to become the Unified Heavyweight World Champion. In total, Tyson to date has secured 30 wins from 31 fights with 0 losses and one draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018, a testament to his powerful performances.
Despite such success, Tyson suffered a downward spiral following his first world title win. Battling mental health issues including depression and suicidal thoughts, Tyson stepped back from training and turned to drugs and alcohol to support his illness. The fall from grace of the most prominent boxer of the moment was highly publicised and the media exposed Tyson’s dramatic weight gain. However, determined to regain his reputation, in 2018 Tyson announced his return to boxing with a re-match set against Wilder. In 2020, Tyson won the World Heavyweight Title and the heart of the nation in what was determined the Comeback of the Year by The Ring and saw Tyson become the first Heavyweight in history to hold five titles.
Remaining a highly prominent sportsman, Tyson has since released an autobiography which became an Amazon Number 1 Bestseller in 24 hours and has been the subject of two ITV documentaries: Meet the Furys and Tyson Fury: Gypsy King. With no signs of slowing down, Tyson is one of the most popular motivational speakers to book as he shares his humbling story from zero to hero and inspires others with his honest account of mental health.
