Born in Germany, Uwe first played professional football for East German team, Lokomotive Leipzig. He very quickly attracted the attention of some of Germany’s most highly regarded clubs including FC Magdeburg and Dynamon Dresden before moving to the UK to play for Manchester City in 1994.
Now considered a legacy for the sky blues, Rosler established himself as the clubs top goalscorer at the end of three consecutive seasons at the pinnacle of his career. In only four years with the English club, he managed to score 64 goals in just 176 appearances which secured himself a place in the City Hall of Fame in 2009. Whilst making a brief return to German football, Rosler continued to display undeniable skill as a centre-back as he managed to score a second-half hat-trick after coming on as a substitute in a game Kaiserslautern. Throughout his footballing career, Uwe also played for Southampton, Norwegian club, Lillestrom and also the East German national team with whom he earnt five caps.
Renowned for his imperative style of management, Rosler has become the man behind a variety of top-flight teams including Lillestrom, Brentford and most recently Malmo FF. He has gone onto release an autobiography entitled Knocking Down Walls, which highlights his drive and determination and journey from feeling trapped in his home country behind the Berlin Wall to becoming a legend at Manchester City. He also discusses his inspiring fight with chest cancer in which he battled whilst earning his coaching badge.
