Better known as Foggy, Carl Fogarty is renowned as the joint-most successful World Superbike racer of all time, when taking into account the number of championships he has dominated. As a testament to his outstanding motorsports ability and dedication to the sport, he is considered to hold the second-highest number of race wins, coming in at 59. However, it’s no surprise that Foggy is held to such high regard, as he is the son of former motorbike racer, George Fogarty.
Despite retiring from the world of racing in 2000, Carl is respected within the sport due to his fast corner speed riding style and aggressive competitiveness. Paired with the factory Ducati team, he earned 59 titles and 4 World Superbike Championships (in 1994, 1995, 1998 and finally 1999).
In recognition of his unflinching dedication to motorsports, despite the risk factor, Carl was recognised with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1998 New Year Honours. Carl’s passion has also generated the Petronas FP1 motorcycle campaign, which took place in the early 2000s. Starting in 1991, he finished 7th in the World Superbikes whilst racing for Neil Tuxworth's Honda UK team. Two years later, he moved to Ducati. After battling with Scott Russell, Carl won 11 races but missed out on the title by a handful of points.
1994 brought Carl’s first taste of success, whilst using the new Ducati 916. Hungry for 1st place, he fought fiercely against Russell and Aaron Slight to secure his place on the podium. Carl won 6 of initial 8 races in 1995, which allowed him to seal titles with 5 of the 24 races to spare. Racing for Tuxworth again in 1996, this time with the Honda factory, Carl bagged 4th place. However, when he returned to Ducati the following year he achieved 2nd overall. Since his debut at Donington Park in 1989, Carl earned 3,008 total points.
Carl “Foggy” Fogarty is the same on the speaking circuit as he was on the track; fierce, passionate and dedicated. Eager to empower competitiveness and self-belief in his audience, he is renowned for his honest, eloquent and hard-hitting public speaking.
