Nicole Bearne is a championship-winning communications leader who spent more than 25 years inside Formula One, operating at the sharp end of one of the world’s most demanding performance environments. As Head of Internal Communications at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, Nicole played a central role in shaping the culture behind a team that secured nine Constructors’ World Championships and eight Drivers’ World Championships. In a sport where results are analysed in real time and margins are measured in milliseconds, she helped ensure that 1,500 people across engineering, manufacturing and race operations moved with clarity and shared purpose.
Nicole began her Formula One career as a founding member of British American Racing, later working closely with Ross Brawn during the remarkable 2009 season at Brawn GP, where the team won both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles in its only year of competition. That experience of building belief through uncertainty, then sustaining excellence under global scrutiny, now sits at the heart of her keynote talks. Nicole brings audiences behind the scenes of race weekend debriefs, open leadership forums and high-stakes decision-making, translating those lessons into practical strategies for business leaders.
At Mercedes, Nicole created the internal communications function from the ground up. She championed open dialogue, visible leadership and a no-blame approach to performance, embedding habits that strengthened trust and accelerated learning. For example, race debriefs were shared across the entire organisation, inviting questions from every shift, including night crews, reinforcing shared accountability. That disciplined approach to communication supported sustained dominance in a volatile, highly competitive industry.
Today, Nicole is Founder and Director of The Comms Exchange, advising organisations on employee experience, leadership communication and cultural alignment. She also serves as Independent Non-Executive Director at Motorsport UK, bringing a people and culture lens to board-level decisions. With a master’s degree in Organisational Behaviour and professional accreditation from the CIPR, Nicole blends academic rigour with real-world credibility. On stage, she equips leaders and teams with clear, actionable tools to improve alignment, strengthen collaboration and perform consistently under pressure.
