Carme Artigas was appointed as Co-Chair of the AI Advisory Board at the United Nations in 2023, working closely with the Secretary General of the UN. In her position, she is responsible for offering recommendations to the UN on decisions related to artificial intelligence. With over 25 years of experience under her belt, Carme has distinguished expertise on matters related to AI, business, technology, innovation and management, which she shares when invited to speak at a wide range of events.
Carme’s educational qualifications include a degree from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, an MSc in Chemical Engineering from IQS Barcelona and a postgraduate in Industrial Management & Administration from IQS Barcelona as well. Early on in her career, she served as an Entrepreneurship & Business Incubators Director at Barcelona Activa before she became CEO of Ericsson Innova Venture Capital Fund, the first technological risk capital fund. This role made her the youngest CEO in the sector, ascending to the role at the age of 30. She has also been CEO of AOC where she developed the e-Government strategy for the Regional Government of Catalonia.
In 2006, Carme served as Co-Founder & CEO at Synergic Partners, developing a big data, data science, IoT Analytics & AI pioneer. She has also been a Member of the Technology Board at Leonisa Europe. Owing to her expertise as a strategic advisor, she has served as the Secretary of State for Digitisation & Artificial Intelligence for the Government of Spain and is now an Advisory Board Member for the Europe Startup National Alliance. Through her positions, she has been able to promote AI regulation at an international level.
