Starting in 1990, Jonas’s extensive range of qualifications range across two decades of dedicated studying and lecturing. Graduating in 1997 he earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, before completing a Masters in Industrial Marketing at Uppsala University, from 1993 to 1997. In 2007, Jonas took a teaching role at Stanford University, lecturing the Masters level degree, Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies. In this role, he taught alongside Professor Tom Kosnik and Professor Lena Ramfelt. Finally, between 2010 and 2013, Jonas taught at the Stockholm School of Economics.
Starting his journey into business at Optimal Telecom, Jonas held the role of Managing Director for two years, from 1998 to 2000. After leaving the company, he founded two telecommunications businesses, Mobyson and Campuz Mobile. Prior to founding Skype, Jonas was the VP Communities of Lycos from 2003 to 2005.
The pinnacle of Jonas’ career came when he created Skype, the video calling service, alongside his business partners. Founded in 2004 and started in an office at Kammakargatan, Jonas headed up the Nordic Region the company and it became a popular choice of communication and continues to be used worldwide today. Though he left the company in 2007, Jonas’ position as VP Head of Sales made him responsible for 90% of the revenue stream.
At present, Jonas is a published and respected author and one of the leading drives behind the corporate investment firm, BCG Digital Ventures. In 2011, Jonas cofounded Gear Up Ventures, an education company that he started with the co-authors of his books, Gear Up: Bring Business Opportunities to Life and Business Creation, Gear Up: Test Your Business Potential and Plan Your Path to Success, Stanford professors Lena Ramfelt and Tom Kosnik. Jonas’ books have been translated into twelve languages and were nominated for The Management Book of The Year CMI award 2014.
