After graduating from Hamilton College with a BA in Geology, Marc joined Borland Software as the VP and General Manager. Gaining invaluable experience in the technology industry, it was not long before Marc honed his technical genius to become the co-founder and founding CEO of Netflix. Netflix is now widely known as the most popular media services provider hosting a number of films, documentaries and series available in countless different countries. A service that has over 150 million subscribers, Marc has changed the way that the world is entertained. As Netflix began to grow, Marc served on the board of directors before retiring from the company in 2003.
Since leaving Netflix, Marc has channelled his interests into many other ventures. Before Netflix, Marc established a reputation as an entrepreneur with experience spanning the breadth of four decades. During his illustrious career, alongside Netflix, Marc has used his entrepreneurial genius to found or co-found six successful businesses including Looker Data recently purchased by Google for a staggering $2.6 billion. During his time in Silicon Valley, Marc has also committed his time as a mentor of early-stage entrepreneurs and invested in countless different start-up businesses that have gone on to become highly successful technological organisations.
Today, Marc acts as a board member for a number of different companies. He is a board member of Readyforce, Rafter, 1% for the Planet, National Outdoor Leadership School, OpenEd.io, Getable, Chubbies Shorts and Looker. With his interest spanning a breadth of sectors including technology, environmental and educational Marc’s knowledge and expertise know no bounds. Marc has also authored a #1 Amazon bestselling book titled That Will Never Work: The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea, documenting how Netflix went from a small idea to a world-dominating streaming platform.
Now, Marc is a highly sought public speaker called upon for the tales of his now illustrious start-up Netflix.
