Eric Schmidt has spent over a decade working with the worlds largest search engine company, Google. A revered businessman, Eric is a popular face of the business and technology worlds and has also worked for tech giant Apple. Today, Eric is regularly booked as a keynote speaker for events, called upon to speak about the time he spent at Google and the lessons of management and leadership that he learnt whilst spearheading the teams of the organisation.
Famed for his time at Google, Eric is best known as the CEO of Google which he worked as from 2001 to 2011. During his time as CEO, Eric was responsible for the operations of the company and the management of other senior management individuals. He later became the Executive Chairman of Google, before accepting another of his prominent roles as Executive Chairman and Technical Director for Alphabet Inc. Eric is also widely known for being a member of the United States President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology during Barack Obama’s presidency and for founding the Schmidt Family Foundation.
Before reaching the heights of success with Google, Eric began his career studying at Princeton University in electrical engineering and later obtained a PhD in EECS. After his studies, Eric worked for several technology companies, including the likes of Bell Labs, Zilog and Byzromotti Design. During this time, Eric became a co-author of Lex, a program used to translate computer code. He later went on to become a Director of Software Engineering for Sun Microsystems and CEO of Novell before landing his role with Google.
Eric has also acted as a member of the Defence Innovation Advisory Board and has also been formerly elected to the Board of Directors for Apple. Additionally, Eric is a trustee board member of both Princetown University and Carnegie Mellon University, contributing to the education of youth at the Stanford Graduate School of Business as a lecturer. Eric has also founded the Schmidt Family Foundation to aid in raising awareness of the importance of sustainability and natural resources. Eric is also responsible for the Schmidt Transformative Technology Fund and Schmidt Science Fellows.
