Nigel Topping is on a mission to build a global community of climate champions that will work towards reducing emissions to 50% by 2030. As a UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP26 and Global Ambassador of High-Level Climate Champions, Nigel’s determination to reverse the climate crisis our planet is facing is commendable. After completing his MA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, Nigel worked at organisations such as Lucas Engineering and Systems, Lucas Industries, BBA Group and TMD Friction. In 2007, he joined as the Chief Innovation Officer at CDP, where he drove growth 15 times through the new business models and programs he introduced. He has since been an Associate at Leaders’ Quest, Member of Board of Trustees at the Dartington Hall Trust, and Board Member at the London Pensions Fund Authorities. In his time as CEO of We Mean Business, Nigel played a key role in securing the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change, having worked closely with business leaders to accelerate action on climate change.
Currently, Nigel is an Honorary Professor in Economics at the University of Exeter Business School, a Non-Executive Director at the UK Infrastructure Bank, and an External Member to the Advisory Committee at AXA Investment Managers. A true climate champion, he is a Senior Climate Advisor at FSD Africa and Advisory Board Member at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. He has also delivered several TED Talks like "3 Rules for a Carbon Zero World" and "We Need to Green the Economy While Restarting It" - further proving that his expertise on matters related to climate is highly revered.
With over 30 years of experience, Nigel was appointed as UNFCCC’s Global Ambassador for Race to Zero and Race to Resilience. He aims to champion the role of business in the transition to Net Zero by instating policies that help businesses take the lead on the environmental front. Nigel received the Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George in 2022.
