Dylan initially began his journalistic career in 1983, joining i-D magazine and later becoming editor in 1984. This role was followed by editorial positions at Arena, The Face, The Observer and The Sunday Times. In 1999 Dylan accepted the role which he currently holds today, joining Condé Nast as the Editor of GQ. During his tenure as editor, Dylan has made many pivotal changes and contributions to the publication overseeing it win 34 awards.
Under his careful watch, GQ has become a highly-popular publication worldwide. After taking the magazine down a more political road, Dylan is credited for having the first magazine front cover of David Cameron. Dylan was also instrumental in bringing established writers such as Tom Wolfe, Dominic Lawson and Will Self to GQ.
Alongside working for GQ, Dylan has also worked on several other projects. Back in 2010, he worked alongside photographer David Bailey to raise money for Help For Heroes in a project called British Heroes in Afghanistan. He has also acted as Chair of the 2012 Menswear Committee, Vice President of the Hay Festival, Co-chair of the Norman Mailer Benefit Gala Dinner in 2011 and Chairman of the Prince’s Trust’s Fashion Rocks Monaco. As a journalist, Dylan has also penned several books including iPod Therefore I Am: A Personal Journey Through Music, Mr Jones’ Rules for the Modern Man and biographies for Paul Smith and Jim Morrison.
Highly rewarded throughout his career, Dylan has been the recipient of countless awards. During his time as editor of GQ Dylan has been awarded the BSME Men’s Editor of the Year Award six times. He has also been awarded the Mark Boxer Award and Brand Building Initiative of the Year. Dylan has also been recognised by the Queen, receiving an OBE at the 2013 Birthday Honours for the services he provided to publishing and the fashion industry.
