James first joined the world of journalism whilst studying at the University of Cambridge. Along with his studies, James worked as the News Features Editor for Varsity. Upon his graduation, James served an internship at the prestigious Vogue, and later with Mirror Group Newspapers. Developing a passion for journalism, James then moved to Hong Kong in pursuit of role in news reporting. In 2001 he landed his first reporting role, ultimately landing a position as an anchor for TVB Pearl. Quickly establishing a positive reputation, James was then appointed by China Central Television. With China Central Television, James was fortunate to work on the CCTV English language station taking main presenting roles on programmes such as China 24.
Five years later James caught the attention of the United Nations, landing a role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. His appointment sparked attention, as he became the first UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador, working to advocate global action in accordance with HIV and AIDS pandemics. James was later appointed as the World Health Organisation Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goals and Health in 2016.
Throughout his career, James has interviewed international personalities. He has interviewed the likes of Arianna Huffington, Jimmy Choo, Fatima Bhutto, Elton John, Winnie Mandela, Muhammad Yunus, Bob Geldof and Annie Lennox. He also holds the title of the first Chinese journalist to interview Aung Sang Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner. James is also a highly sought-after public speaker, delivering at countless high-profile events. Most recently he spoke at the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, giving him reputable qualities for conference speaking and facilitation. Highly knowledgeable from working with some of the largest news companies and global leaders, it is without a doubt that James will leave a lasting impression on an audience of any size.
